Two-vehicle Accident

Deputies responded to a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Ga Hwy 16 (Sparta Hwy) and Maddox Road this afternoon at 3:48PM.

A 2023 Ford F650 Budget box truck, driven by Brandon Gholston, age 40 of Powder Springs, GA, was traveling west toward Eatonton was struck head-on by a 2005 Toyota Corolla, driven by Terance Butts, age 45 of Eatonton. Gholston along with his passenger, Britany Turnbull, age 37 of Loganville, were not injured.

Terance Butts was dead on the scene upon arrival of the first deputy. His two daughters, ages 7 & 12, were passengers with him. The girls were transported by Putnam EMS to a Macon hospital. We are unaware of the extent of their injuries.

A witness who was traveling behind Butts' vehicle which was traveling east toward Sparta said Butts simply crossed the center line and hit the truck head-on in the west-bound lane.
