Warrants & Civil Process

WARRANT-CIVIL SECTION

WARRANTS

One of the sheriff's many duties is to serve arrest warrants. All warrants issued by courts in Putnam County are directed to the Sheriff's Office to be executed. In addition to warrants from Putnam County it is the responsibility of the sheriff to serve arrest warrants from other counties and states for wanted persons located in Putnam County. This responsibility extends well beyond the territorial limits of the county and deputies continuously traverse the state and other states around the nation transporting prisoners back to Putnam County.

On average the Sheriff's Office maintains approximately 500 active arrest warrants at any given time. Between 2010 and 2012 the sheriff's deputies executed over 16,000 arrest warrants for violations of law running the gamut from offenses such as Bad Check to Murder.

CIVIL

The service of court processes is yet another of the sheriff's myriad duties. Deputies serve all summonses, writs, subpoenaes, and orders of the Superior Court, Juvenile Court, State Court, Probate Court, and Magistrate Court. The Sheriff's Office also has the responsibility to serve similar legal processes on individuals in Putnam County that originate in other states and counties. Between 2010 and 2012 deputies served over 18,000 civil processes. The sheriff also levies (seizes) and sells property pursuant to court orders. There are fees mandated by law that have to be collected related to some of the sheriff's civil duties.
