PATROL DIVISION

In addition to its "patrol" function, the Patrol Division performs many other tasks such as service of warrants and civil papers, enforcement of criminal and traffic laws, and intitial investigation of crimes.  One of the most time consuming and expensive duties performed by the Patrol Division is the transportation of mental patients, juveniles, and intrastate and interstate prisoners.

Patrol personnel are divided into four 12-hour shifts which run from 6 to 6. Deputy positions are balanced between the shifts based upon the needs of the community. Each shift has an "A" and "B" rotation supervised by a sergeant.

This is the sheriff's mobile command center. It is a fully self contained 36 foot trailer equipped with a diesel generator, a host of radios, telephones and other communication devices along with a retractable 85 foot antennae mast. It is pulled by a four wheel drive one-ton crew cab truck. The mobile center has a conference room, four dispatch stations, a restroom, and a small sleeping quarters. The trailer was manufactured locally by Horton Homes, Inc.. The entire rig, truck, and trailer along with the equipment was purchased by Sheriff Sills at no cost to the taxpayers, utilizing assets seized from criminals.
