Hazardous Weather for Putnam County

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect from 11 am this morning to 9 am Wednesday morning for portions of North, Central, and Southeast Georgia. Snow is expected to begin as early as mid-morning and last into tonight. Although the snow will end close to midnight Wednesday, snow covered roads will make for hazardous driving conditions through Wednesday morning.

Significant ice accumulation will create dangerous driving conditions for motorists, including first responders. Damage to trees and power lines is likely. Widespread power outages are also possible. Rain is expected to transition to freezing rain, sleet, and snow by this afternoon as much colder air pushes southward across the region. Precipitation should end as a period of snow and sleet late tonight into early Wednesday.

The latest forecast for the Putnam County area is for accumulations of 1 to 3 inches of sleet and snow starting this afternoon through the early morning hours Wednesday.  The heaviest downfall will occur this afternoon and evening.  Temperatures  will drop to around 19 tomorrow morning and the high on Wednesday is expected to be around 36.

All schools in Putnam County have closed at this time.  The Putnam County Schools system will make a decision as to whether its schools will be closed tomorrow (Wed. Jan. 29th) at 5:00PM.

All emergency and public safety agencies in Putnam met this morning and are prepared to respond to weather related incidents as they develop.

It is my recommendation that you simply not drive unless it is absolutely necessary until the roadways are clear and safe.

You can obtain the most current weather forecast for our area from the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, Georgia at the link below.
